Our Story
It started with 5 friends
Newly began in 2016 with five friends identifying what they believed to be a serious problem: not enough consumer goods are made with recycled content.
We believed that if we could create a company that 1) makes beautiful home goods, and 2) makes them from 100% recycled or repurposed materials then we would be doing something special.
Redefining responsibility
You don’t have to be a dyed-in-the-wool environmentalist to grasp what we’re doing.
To us "environmentalism” simply means being honest about our effect on the natural world and choosing to value its health over other interests like profit and convenience. Given what we now know about the challenges of climate change and the benefits of resource efficiency, it's incumbent upon all of us, especially in business, to take a more complete view of our actions.
Incorporating 3 key truths
NUMBER ONE
The earth has finite resources.
NUMBER TWO
Recycled is more cost effective when all of the costs are considered. Conventional manufacturing rarely if ever accounts for costs to clean air and water, the natural world and human health. We consider those true costs when making our sourcing decisions.
NUMBER THREE
We use materials that are created in ways that prioritize resource efficiency, minimize water use and greenhouse gas emissions, and actively divert waste from landfills, waterways and other places that need to be protected.
Becoming a B-Corp
In 2019 we became an official, certified B-Corporation, a new kind of business that balances purpose and profit. We are legally required to consider the impact of our decisions on our workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. This is a community of leaders, driving a global movement of people using business as a force for good.
